The final countdown

So I know I haven't posted in a while and I apologize. As my mother has noticed I am growing weary. I am still enjoying the amazing experience, but living out of a backpack and constantly packing and repacking is getting old. A while ago Megan and I made a rule saying we need to stop talking about home because we are going to miss what is right in front of us, but somehow we find ourselves breaking this rule more and more with each passing day. Small things like "second to last time packing," or "this time next week...". All that being said we have still been having a great time in Italy.

From Switzerland we got on a train and headed south through the mountains to the Cinque Terra on the northwest coast of Italy. It is a series of 5 small towns with hardly any traffic nada slow paced lifestyle. As soon as we got there and found Barbara, the adorable little women we rented a room from (which is more common than hotels in these small towns) we headed strait for the beach. After being away from Spain for a while I was really starting to miss the ocean. We jumped off the pier into the crystal blue water and finally got some relief from the heat (that Is until I got attacked by zebra muscles). A fresh pizza and we were off to bed after an exhausting day. The following morning we got up early and decided to head to some of the other towns to see what they had to offer. After asking a local how to get to the next town over and being told we did not have appropriate foot wear we got on the train in the other direction. We went to the far village and made our way back. Zig zagging from one shop to the next we found post cards, trinkets, dried pasta, pesto, and all things Italian. We decided to walk from the far town to the next which was beautiful. Up on the mountain side green with orchards looking over the ocean we strolled along with couples and families alike. We got the train from there and headed back to the room for an afternoon nap. I have found myself completely wrapped up in the book "The Help". If you have not read it I would highly recommend it. In the evening we got some dinner and headed for gelato. If there is one thing we are going to remember most about that place it will be the gelato. It was out of this world. I thought maybe it was just because we were so tired, but no it was actually that good. So good we went back the next day and were equally as delighted. After saying goodbye to Barbara we got on the train and headed to Rome. We have been here probably longer than we would have liked, but it has been good in the end. It is so hot here and it is hard to do more than one thing in a day. We have developed a pretty good routine: get up in the morning go for a walk, come back and eat lunch, nap, relax, shower, go see something else at night. It is just so muggy, so even at night you still feel really sticky, but at least the sun is down. So we have seen all the big sites: the Colosseum, the Trevey Fountain (my favorite so far), Vatican City, and we are headed to the Spanish steps tonight. Tomorrow we are just going to take it easy and have a nice dinner out.

One nice thing about having lots of free time is I have had lots of think time. I feel like I am usually either tired, busy, reading,or sleeping, but I have found myself just laying sometimes or when Megan and I are walking and not talking I am thinking, praying, and mostly thanking God and trying to remember every detail of everything and how I feel. It is good to decompress and let thoughts out much like I do here.

So in closing I just want to thank anyone who has read every post or maybe just this one. I am not always an open person, but this blog has been a big comfort to me and a way to feel like my voice is being heard in a way. I miss you all like crazy and can't wait to see you next week.

Standing in awe of how God has moved,

Sigourney
