A spot of tea
Hello London! I think London has been one of our favorite cities so far. There are so many things to love: the accent, the atmosphere, fish and chips, English gardens, and the Olympics to name a few. We arrived late and headed strait for bed after a long day of traveling. We woke the next morning in good spirits ready to hit the town. On the recommendation of my friend Hayley, who we stayed with, we took a little river walk to the train and we were nt disappointed. It was quiet and covered with flowers and a little protection from the habitual rain. We took the tube into the city and upon reaching ground level we found ourselves watching the women's Olympic marathon! It was incredible. We soon found a pub to try some fish and chips, but unfortunately they were out so we settled for some sausage and mash instead. We pressed on to the London bridge and let the river lead us around town. We saw the London eye, the Globe theater, and as a little treat the city has little "wenlocks" all over the city painted with different scenes from the city. The wenlock is a little one eyed creature that is a sort of mascot for the Olympics. We headed back across the millennium bridge (the one the death eaters destroy in HP7) and up to st. Paul's cathedral. It is huge, but surprisingly not all that cathedral looking. After a quick rest we hopped back on the tube and went north to King's Cross. For those of you that are not Harry Potter fans, this is the train station where platform 9 3/4 is located and where the Hogwarts Express picks up the students to take them to school. We took our picture with platform 9 3/4 left to head back To Hayley's. She took us on a short walk to Canary Wharf, which is the banking district with a lot more modern buildings, but it had a cute market and some nice restaurants. We for Chinese for dinner and watched the Olympics before bed. Monday morning we got up early with a full day ahead of us. Buckingham palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abby and Hyde Park all in one day! We quickly found Big Ben and were not disappointed. His big golden face lights up the sky and on the hour he reminds all of the time. The palace was a bit underwhelming, so h so that we asked a man where it was wen we were standing right in front of it, but at Westminster Abby we ran into a girl from north Carolina who was on a mission trip and raising awareness for human trafficking. It we talked to we for a bit and found out that there are thousands of people from all over the world in the city on mission for the games and I was so refreshed to see so many people on fire for the Gospel. On our way to Hyde park we even got an evangelism book! Ok we are at the airport and I am going to loose wifi so you will have to stay tuned to hear about our disaster of a day yesterday!
