Spontaneous
One of my favorite things in life is being spontaneous. Yesterday I got invited to go to a place called "Puerta del Diablo" which translates to "The Devil's Door." After a long car ride, which for no real reason I found extremely fun, we arrived and it was beautiful. There were street vendors all around selling "elote loco," or crazy corn, hand made crafts, and there were even carnival rides. We climbed up on one side of the cliffs to take in our surroundings. At the top I was talking with one of my friends Mari who has moved here from Ohio. We were reminded of how huge God is and also had a moment of "wow, we live in Central America!"
On the way down Kayla, Josue, and I decided to go on a zip line adventure! It was a lot of fun and so spontaneous. Below is a video of me flying away!
I think most of us would like to be more spontaneous. There is something in us that makes us feel more alive when we are able to be spontaneous and not need a plan for everything. I think it is part of faith. We are not called to never have a plan, but we are told not to worry. In Matthew 6 we are told this:
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
In this passage we are encouraged to trust God with everything because he already knows what we need and delights in providing. Living out of the belief that God truly will provide us with everything we need frees us to live in the moment and enjoy what is right in front of us without worry about dinner tonight, rent next month, or tomorrow's wardrobe. What is one small step of faith you can take today to spontaneously enjoy God? He has placed miracles and beauty all around you. Will you choose to see it and live in the moment, or will you allow the pressures of the world to bog you down with worries?
Standing in awe of the beauty all around me,

So at new life, Nik just had a sermon on scheduling God into your everyday tasks. He showed us his Google calendar for the week and how he fits in his quiet times/family times/exercise etc and challenged us listening to make sure we incorporate certain things into out busy lives. It's interesting to see the contrast of two very different perspectives (and schedules of course! More planning is involved when you've got kids) especially within a day of each other. Being structured is definitely good for some things, but spontaneity is so crucial for experiencing what God had in store for us too! It reminded me greatly of a previous post of yours about the beauty of living simply. Thanks for the encouragement, as always :)
