Hope: part 2
So I talk about the sunrise a lot. Sorry I'm not sorry...I think it is one of the most amazing things we have the opportunity to see daily. However I hope this time around I can shed light (pun intended) on the subject of hope.
On Friday some good friends of mine invited me over to stay the night. They also love the beach and so Friday we swam and then watched the sunset. On Saturday we got up at 5:30am to watch the sunrise and as I sat on a piece of drift wood I couldn't help but be in awe. Before the sun had even broken the horizon colors danced across the sky painting the clouds beautiful shades of soft purple and pink. At the first peak over the ocean the sun was a brilliant burning orange that caused the sky around it to glow a delicate pink.
Now normally I would talk about all the possibility in a sunrise but this time all I could think of was heaven. I was almost in tears at the beauty that was before me and this is nothing compared to heaven. I was blown away at God's creativity and felt so appreciative at how much of an artist he is.
Do you ever dream of heaven? I mean really. Do you think about it, what it will be like, how you will be there, if you will be there? Little moments of beauty like that sunrise make me long for heaven. I think they are little gifts of God that we get a peak at what is to come. We can not even imagine the beauty of heaven, but my desire for beauty and having the slightest idea of what it looks like creates a deep longing inside me for more. Sometimes it is painful to feel this longing, but I never want to lose it. When we long for something greater, more beautiful, more just than what we know, we long for heaven. I've read a quote that says, "longing is proof of heaven." I whole heartedly agree. What do you long for? Or are you too scared to even ask yourself this question. Think about it. What do you long for, and are you willing to trust God with it?
Maybe you're reading this and you're thinking, "I don't even know if heaven exists." It does. One thing about the truth is weather you believe it or not, it is still true. Look around. Things are not right. There is famine, slavery, assault, heart break, disappointment and a million other things that in the depths of our being we know are not right. This world needs a savior and we have one. Jesus came 2000 years ago to break the chains of slavery and offer us a hope that no one else could. He lived a life of perfection and then suffered the consequence of our sin. The only thing we have earned in this life is death and yet Jesus decided to die to give us a second chance at life. If you choose to believe this you can be 100% sure that you will be in heaven when you die. We do not have to fear death. We have been promised a better life where things are restored. Where heart break and pain do not exist, but we live in our fullest potential and in perfect peace with everyone. We will no longer be marred by sin.
So next time you see a sunrise, or hear a song that moves you to tears, think of heaven. Thank God for the promise that he has given us. Ask God to help you have a more eternal perspective so you can live in more freedom here on this earth. Never stop dreaming of heaven.
Standing in awe of heaven,
Sigourney
