El Salvador Round Up!
Good morning everyone! Many people have been asking about when I will be returning to La Libertad. Well today I am happy to inform you that I will be going down next month! Ya know what that means??? It's time to round up those clothes you don't wear, those toys you want to give away, and any other donations you would like to send with me! Things that would be a great to donate include, but are not limited to:
On the spring break trip this year we have a group of 10 students who have never been to La Libertad. I am so excited and overjoyed at the opportunity to introduce these students to the people that I know and love who have had such an impact on my life. The group seems eager to get there and is full of very talented and diverse individuals. Some have never left the country, others have done extensive travel, and many have a high level of Spanish speaking ability, which will really foster relationship building. Please pray for the team as the March 1st departure approaches. Pray that God uses each person's unique gifts to reach out to those in need, that God changes each person on a heart level, that we are safe, and most of all that we are all open and willing to hear what God has for us.
On a somewhat unrelated note, El Salvador's presidential election was this past Sunday. It seemed to go off without any glitches. As far as I have seen there were two front runners and it was too close to call so there will be a run off. Please continue to pray that God does something crazy and invades the heart of the new president and that he truly does what is best for the country.
A quick personal note: I know I mentioned earlier this year that one of my goals for 2014 was to know myself better. Be careful what you wish for. It has been anything but easy and peaceful. God has been revealing a lot to me about who I am and the areas of my life that I don't allow others or God into. It is good but also really hard at times. However, I was reading Psalm 34 yesterday and God told me this in verse 18: "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Such a great reminder that times are not always great even when you are following the Lord. He doesn't promise to make it easy, but he does promise to never leave you. I love that this verse even says that he is "close" to the brokenhearted. He isn't just in the same building in a big fancy office, he is right next to each of us, and he felt what it was to have a broken heart because he walked this earth as 100% human. We are not alone. The Lord is CLOSE.
Standing in Awe of how little I know of God,
