Faith

Announcements:

  • This Friday is Campus United: A good friend of mine organizes this event which is a worship concert on the University of Michigan Diag that unites all the Christian groups on campus to come together and worship God!
  • This Saturday is the New Life Church homecoming tailgate: I would love for you to join us in cheering on the Wolverines and for a great fun way to see ministry in action!
  • November 3rd New Life Church will be having a baptism service.  If you have wanted to visit NLC and have not had the motivation to do so, I would highly encourage you to make a point to make it to this.  I cry every time at the testimonies people give of how God has redeemed their lives.
In other news, I don't have a ton to share this week or anything super deep, but do have a lot to be thankful for.  Today I gained my 30th supporter!  It is amazing to see how God has led me to people I never imagined I would talk to let alone would join my ministry support team.  If you are one of those 30 I want to sincerely say thank you and let you know that I truly appreciate you and that you are a blessing and an answered prayer.  I also want to send a shout out to all of the special givers as well.  You are appreciated.

I am writing from Mt. Pleasant this week, and it seems like recently God has been pointing me to my old high school.  I have had a lot of appointments with former teachers and administrators.  To be honest for a long time I had a negative attitude toward SHA and it has taken me a few years to let it go.  Like most kids I had good and bad times in high school, but now looking back I have seen more and more how unique of an experience it was.  In a sort of backwards way the small town, small school experience catapulted me into my desire to see and experience more.  Today I had the opportunity to speak to the freshman at SHA.  I have no idea if they absorbed a single word I said, but what I tried to convey was that extraordinary people are not required to make a lasting impact, but normal people willing to take risks to accomplish extraordinary things.  Time and time again God tells us, "do not be afraid for I am with you."  The bible tells us that with Christ all things are possible.  I firmly believe that.  It is not really God's style to chose the leaders, or accomplished, or "perfect" people to do his work, but the week, the screw-up and the outcast.  He doesn't ask anything of us but to follow Him and trust that His will is perfect.

I do not consider myself an extraordinary person, nor do I consider the things that I have done or am doing anything special.  The only reason I am able to do any of is because I have said "yes" when Christ calls me.  I have messed up a lot and will continue to do so, and God has had to slam a lot of doors in my face, but that is part of faith; learning to take risks knowing that failure is a very real option.  So I will now step down off my soap box and simply encourage you to do something risky in faith today and see where Christ takes you!

One last thing:  I have a very special prayer request today.  Currently heath care providers in El Salvador are on strike and unfortunately the lower income families are the most effected by it.  My dear friend Claudia's father is finishing up his radiation treatment for cancer, and thank the Lord his treatment has not been effected.  I would still love for you to be praying that a settlement is reached soon seeing as tens of thousands of visits and procedures have been canceled since the strikes started.

Standing in awe of what faith can do,

Sigourney

P.S. I hope to have a testimony from the fall retreat for the next post!  Stay tuned!
