God is Mysterious: Prayer Letter 10
Firstly I have an announcement:
We will be hosting a New Life Tailgate for UM's Homecoming weekend on Saturday, October 5th (tailgate starts at 11:30am). I want to invite you to come and see our ministry in action! Football game days can be a time of great fun but also great temptation for students. Please come join me at the Tailgate for some food and a chance to meet some of the students I minister to. There will be a $5 suggested donation for the food that will go toward helping me and my co-workers stay fully funded and working on campus this school year.
Secondly, what I have been thinking about lately how God really can use every situation for good. I was talking with a friend last night and we were discussing how we have had a lot of friends go through rough situations in the last year. Being in a season of support raising is not something a lot of people see as a blessing at first glance. However, I have been thinking about how the natural flexibility of my schedule has allowed me to come along side friends in need and share their burdens. I have been blessed by a lot of joy and time with family in the last year, and though my family is not perfect, I have had few burdens to bear of my own. This has freed me up to "...mourn with those who mourn," (Romans 12:15). I have talked about this before, but I once read where someone said, "A true friend is someone who multiplies joy and divides sorrows." I love that. Don't you just want to run and tell the world when something joyful happens? A true friend will not bear jealousy, but multiply your joy and be blessed by it. We also need people in times of sorrow. Somehow having someone in it with you, even if they don't say anything, but just having someone to walk through a tough situation or a loss with you somehow makes the pain more bearable. What type of season are you in? Are you in a place where you can multiply joy, or do you need someone to make the seemingly ceaseless pain hurt just a little less? Wherever you are, be assured that the Lord knows what you need, and he desires to provide even in the most unlikely ways.
Lastly I have an update of prayer requests for my friends in La Libertad. One of my good friend's father is currently going through chemotherapy. Please pray for his healing and that the doctors are wise in their decisions. They have asked for prayer that the church would grow and that they would have at least 160 people consistently on Sundays. Thank you all so much for your prayers and support. There is also a prayer list to the right on the side panel. As always please feel free to comment, or email me with any prayer requests you may have.
Standing in awe of the mystery of God,
Sigourney
