You are blessed: Prayer letter 5
I am blessed. How often do you say that to yourself? I can say that I don't say it enough! I am often bogged down by my own stress and worry to take a step back and remember how blessed I am. This week was a bit out of the ordinary for me in so many wonderful ways.
If you have read my blog from last summer when I was traveling in Europe (if you haven't that's ok too) you might remember me talking about how alive I felt. I relished in waking up each day with no idea what the day held for me or what new exciting thing I was going to see, do, or taste. Well being home has proven difficult to feel that way. However, on Wednesday I felt it again. I made an appointment in Muskegon on Wednesday and decided to head to the west side for the day and visit the Tulip Festival in Holland, something I have wanted to do for years. It was absolutely amazing. I arrived pretty early and so I found parking close by and just wandered around by myself, which is not something that I would normally do. It was a beautiful day and I felt God's love surrounding me as strongly as I felt the sun's rays soaking into my skin. I stumbled upon a field of tulips and was almost brought to tears at how beautiful they were. I know that sounds a little extreme, but that is how much I love flowers. I spent the entire day exploring the city, which on a side note is now one of my favorite cities in Michigan, taking photos of the tulips and worshiping the Lord for all the beauty that He has made. After a picnic lunch, a couple parades, and exploring the campus of Hope College, I headed north for my appointment. I was early and so I took Lakeshore Drive rather than the expressway and made a pit stop at the beach in Grand Haven. I sat on the shore and journaled for a while before moving on. The day could not have been more perfect.
After such a wonderful day in Holland you would think that the week couldn't get better. Well let me tell you about the weekend. My dad, the sweet man that he is, decided to send my mother and me to Orlando for the weekend to go to Harry Potter world at Universal Studios. If you didn't know before, my mother and I are big Harry Potter nerds. It was such a great girls weekend full of relaxation, pool time, yummy food, geeking out over Harry Potter things, and just pure joy. It has been a while since my mom and I have gotten to spend time together without another purpose. I just feel so blessed by my dad that he wanted to send us down without him, and it reminds me of how our heavenly father loves us. He doesn't hold back, he lavishes us and showers us with love and gifts.
In Psalm 23:5 it says, "...My cup overflows with blessings."
In other Psalms as well as Proverbs it often compares God's blessings to rain and uses words like "pour," "shower," and other words we associate with water almost crashing down on us. So beautiful.
Now I am back nose to the grindstone, but glad to be doing it. I am not just blessed that I get to go on trips, but that I have the opportunity to connect with people from the past, and people that I don't know yet. My job is a blessing and I will not soon forget it. I will praise God for each day that He gives me, and I will do my best to choose to follow Him daily.
Standing in awe of His lavish love,
Sigourney
