First day of school (and more)
So I am finding it more difficult than I anticipated to keep up with this! I don't want to bore you, but I am learning so many new things every day it is hard to not want to share them. First things first: Sunday.
After a VERY long night of dancing on Saturday, lets just say I didn't get out of bed early. We decided to head up the coast a bit to a nicer, less crowded beach. So after trying to get everyone together for almost an hour due to our lack of communication ability we got on the tram and took the short ride up the coast. It was totally worth it! We spent the afternoon basking in the sun and I almost felt like I had to pinch myself every once and a while to make sure it was not all a dream. The water was crystal clear, so much so that I could see my toe nail polish when the water was over my head. The gentle sound of the waves crashing and the children laughing with the warm breeze blowing off the ocean was like a sweet lullaby as I drifted in and out of sleep. Just when I felt as though it was getting a bit too warm, I would swim out and float in the gentle rhythm of the Mediterranean. Just when we all felt as though our bronze skin may be darkening to red we decided to head home. After a train ride full of laughter from the intoxication of the sun we headed for the Medieval Festival one last time, but not without stopping for gelato first :) After a while the salt, sunscreen, and sweat was getting to all of us and we went out separate ways to shower and eat dinner. It was wonderful and I have a feeling San Juan may become a weekend ritual.
On to today. I woke up late, as usual, after a night of facetime with my family. Just like grandpa Earl, I talked to almost all of my siblings on Sunday. I headed for the bus stop at 11 to make sure I had enough time to find my class. It is a packed bus ride, but it passes quite quickly with a friend to talk to. When we arrived, we ran into a student who is from Spain, but speaks English very well and she helped us get to our classes. I was slightly nervous about my teacher and classmates, as usual the first day of class, but was quickly comforted by the warm smile of my professor and the small class size. Today there were only five people in my class and one of the girls is from Appleton, Wisconsin! She seems very nice and I am hoping we can become closer friends and the weeks go by. There is also a girl from Germany, one from Romania, and a boy from Japan. So far things seem to be going well. Before I left this morning Maria asked if I wanted to eat when I got home, to which I said "si" of course, and I was not disappointed! It was like a chicken soup, but it had noodles with chick peas, carrots, and melt in your mouth chicken; not too bad! After a short siesta (this one was actually short I promise) I headed down the street to the papeleria to buy a notebook and read my bible by the water. I am going to be reading through Joshua for the next while so I would love it if some of you wanted to do the same and then talk about what we got out of it! I am just doing a chapter a day.
Alright for the sake of not boring you, I will sign off here. Stay posted though Wednesday we are hiking to the castle and having paella for dinner!
Standing in awe the tiny joys He has provided me,
Sigourney
