I have finally made it home to my family for the summer.  My family is great!  Mi madre y papa are so kind and help me with everything.  My room is purple (my favorite) and I am the middle of two sisters, Estefania who is 26 and Elana who is almost 18, oh and I cant forget Luna (moon) our albino cat!  I live right downtown in the shopping district, but still only 10 minutes from the beach.  It is  great.  I am so excited to get accustomed to the lifestyle and learn more and more about the city.  Next week I plan on starting running again (near the beach of course).  So far  I have been to the super market, the beech, a hotel, restaurants, and tomorrow we are headed to the university which is up the hill north of the city.  I have also met the other 9 people that are in my program for the month of June and they seem nice, but I think I am different than a lot of them.  There seems to be a few party animals, but I hope that nothing bad happens.

There is another girl who I seemed to click with.  She is studying international studies and world religions.  She grew up Catholic like me, but she is not Catholic anymore.  We had a pretty good chat today, and I am hoping that God will move in our friendship.  I would love to have another Christian to relate to.  Also, mi papa showed me the Catholic church that he goes to.  My goal is to find a church pronto!

Ok madre is making dinner so I am going to sign off but there will be more pictures to come!  My camera battery died so I am waiting for it to charge so I can upload them!

Spontaneous

One of my favorite things in life is being spontaneous.  Yesterday I got invited to go to a place called "Puerta del Diablo" which translates to "The Devil's Door."  After a long car ride, which for no real reason I found extremely fun, we arrived and it was beautiful.  There were street vendors all around selling "elote loco," or crazy corn, hand made crafts, and there were even carnival rides.  We climbed up on one side of the cliffs to take in our surroundings.  At the top I was talking with one of my friends Mari who has moved here from Ohio.  We were reminded of how huge God is and also had a moment of "wow, we live in Central America!" This is not Easy

A lot of crappy things here happen on a daily basis, but recently a few things in particular have happened that I feel I simply can't remain silent about.  What sparked my desire to write this post happened about a week ago.  I think it was a Saturday and I got home to hear my host family talking about something they saw at the beach earlier that day.  I wasn't paying attention at first, but then I put the pieces together, and there were five people who got pulled out to sea with nothing but an inflatable and the sun was going down.  Ok so maybe the fact that there are strong rip tides here this shouldn't surprise me so much, but what really disturbed me was that everyone just assumed that they all drowned and no one seemed surprised.  Furthermore, they were saying that the people were foolish and should have known better. A day in the life

So I promise I will get back to my studies of the promises of God, but today was so uneventfully wonderful that I feel the need to tell you about it. Just like any other normal day I woke up to the birds chirping, the dogs barking, the neighbor girl crying, and cool air biting my toes.  One of my favorite parts of the day is heading downstairs bright and early to make my cup of coffee and return to the fresh air in my room to read and watch the sunrise all while savoring the first cup of coffee of the day.  As the rest of the inhabitants of the house begin to stir we quickly have breakfast and head down the mountain to start another day.  We first go into town to drop off Marielos at the market and the sound of buses and bells signaling fresh baked bread always brings a smile to my face.  Downtown is crawling with people coming into town with goods to sell and heading out of town to work as well as many locals stopping to have a cup of coffee with a friend.  ...
