Home Safe

So we made it home from El Salvador last night to the snow.  Twenty-four hours post trip I am still getting accustomed to brushing my teeth with the sink water and driving my car.  It is amazing how in such a short time I can be half way around the world in a seemingly different reality.  I am missing La Libertad more than I thought possible, and to be honest so full of emotions that it is hard to identify how I feel.  There are a few things I do know for certain.  God is doing absolutely amazing things in the church there.  I am so encouraged by the peoples' tenacious love for their community, and they have faith that can truly move mountains.  I also know that God is listening to me and that he answers prayer.  I have been praying for great transformation within my family, and He, the God of the universe, listened to my prayer and answered me.  I am so encouraged by the softness of my dad's heart and how God moved him to really care about and see God's people for who they are.  I can't explain the great joy God has brought me through my parents simply caring enough about what I care about to take a week out of their lives to see and experience the one think that God has placed a passion in my heart for.

My dad had the opportunity to do some construction and build a floor for a family that would otherwise have a dirt floor in their home.  Have a strong foundation in the homes there is especially important there because most people live on the mountain and when the rainy season comes mudslides can take out the houses.  My mom got a change to use her skills as a nurse and help with a medical clinic at the church.  They helped around 25 families obtain proper medicine for their ailments and also shared the Gospel with all of these families!  It was beautiful.  Many of these families also have children that are part of the nutrition center at the church that currently feeds 21 children, who otherwise might not eat at all, 5 days a week.  A few other things that we had the opportunity to do include cooking and delivering food to a poor community near by, assist and play with the children in the nutrition center, and evangelize on a college campus.

Most importantly we were able to build relationships and experience a different way of life and worship with fellow brothers and sisters around the world.  My parents made great friends with a couple there.  It is amazing how even with the language barrier God can build great relationships.  For me, every year I feel more and more part of a family there.  God showed me how truly special I am to him and to the people there, and that he has such a beautiful plan laid out for me.  I am so blessed to even have the opportunity to be an instrument of God and be a part of what he is doing in La Libertad, and I cant wait for the day when I get to be down there full time!

There are a million things I could say and a million little stories that are seemingly insignificant, but that I know have changed my life and moments that God blessed me with simply because He loves me.  I would love to share them with you, so please ask.  It means so much to me when people care about things that I care about, and I love to share them.  Please pray for the people of La Libertad and what God is doing there, and I would love if you could be praying for me and the work that God has planned for me.  Thanks!

Standing in awe of God's glory,

Sigourney
